A rural village in the heart of Somerset
Butleigh is one of the oldest villages in Great Britain. With a population of around 900 the village is situated near to Glastonbury and Street. Bath, Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgewater are within easy reach as is the Clarks Village shopping complex and the large Millfield Academy complex.
Facilities A local and well supported Primary School, Post Office, Public House (Rose & Portcullis) and traditional tea room (The Drawing Room) are here in the village. St Leonard’s, the local Anglican Church is well supported and regularly holds village functions. An annual fete in the grounds and musical reviews inside the church attract large numbers. Butleigh Area Transport (BATS) is a group run by volunteers and provides transport for those in need of help in the village.
A meeting and function room is available to hire for meetings and parties. Weekly Whist Drives are held here and the rooms have recently undergone a major refurbishment
In the very near future a local resident will have completed a Heritage Trail for the village. Walks around the historical village with historical data on buildings provided.
A small camping and caravan site on the outskirts of the pretty village of Butleigh.
The site could not be more picturesque located in a quiet lane and in an orchard.
This all female community choir, currently with about 30 members, is open to those from Butleigh and the surrounding villages.
Several book groups operate in the village and each month post reviews in the monthly News and Views magazine.
Two sessions of Pilates are held each week on a Tuesday in the Backtown Pavilion.

An excellent magazine, the NEWS & VIEWS, covers Butleigh and the surrounding villages and is published monthly. It is available by subscription or from the Post Office.
The Butleigh Wheelers meet every Thursday on the village green outside the Post Office. They have their own pages on this website with news features & images
The Butleigh public footpath network has been extensively improved, new gates to replace old ones and stiles. Improved pathways and the general clearance of overgrown vegetation.
Butleigh PFA The Butleigh Playing Fields Association is a volunteer group that looks after the playing filed at Backtown and the play park at Holm Oaks. Regular community events are organised to help fund the upkeep of the facilities and the pavilion is available for hire for meetings and parties. The BPFA also has dedicated pages on this website.
The Little Arts Group meets in the Church Rooms on a Wednesday afternoon.
