From its conception in 2011 the Butleigh Wheelers had just two enthusiastic riders and these ventured out when the mood took them for rides of between twelve and fifteen with several cafe stops en route. Over the years interest has grown and the group now comprises of twelve members. Not everyone goes riding every week but depending peoples commitments they regularly get six to eight riders for a weekly morning ride. The length of the rides has probably increased as members have become more experienced. The group comprises of both men and women and in some cases includes both the husband and wife.
Cycling forms a large part of village life with all age groups and genders able to take part in relative safety. The local roads are less busy than in the larger towns and the beautiful countryside around Butleigh offers some wonderful views. The surrounding villages of Baltonsborough, Keinton Mandeville, West Pennard, Barton St David and many others offer fantastic scenery and many interesting places to visit.
